Maths - geometry

We have been learning about shapes and position words. Position words tell us where something is or where it is going. 

We use words like: On the cushion, on the mat, In front, behind, the back of the class, around, under, beside, between, middle, on top, in, through, out, off. 
We have also learned about turns and can make full and half turns. Quarter turns were new for us and can be tricky.

Task: Pick a picture of the blocks in a pattern (dont show your buddy). Using our maths words describe how to make the pattern. Remember to give accurate clear instructions.

Success Criteria:
  • I use the correct names for shapes

  • I  give clear instructions about position
  • I follow postion instructions

Reflection

I can: I can use words like forwards and backwards and up and down and beside, under, between, through and over.

It was hard when: I lose the words and point my finger to help my buddy.

I really liked: leaning outside like going through the poles and up the slide.

Maths learning in the playground and playing Simon says helped us all to learn and practise using our maths position words. You showed me that you can go up the ladder and over the swing. It was tricky to give clear instructions so your buddy could make the shape pattern using your words and not pointing your finger. Keep on practising and it will get easier and easier!

Whakawhanaungatanga



We have been learning all about whakawhanaungatanga and what it means. We think it is all about getting along better, including everybody and being in a team.

When we are showing Whakawhanaungatanga we will :

 
See:  people sharing and noticing other people

Hear:  kind words, encouraging words like "ka pai", "good job”, “can I help?"

Think about: about other people, listen and share.


Task: Listen to your buddy and learn some things about them. Work together to create a poster sharing what you have learned about each other. Remember to practise using encouraging words, to share ideas and to notice how you your buddy might be feeling. 

 Success Criteria:

  • I shared my ideas with my buddy.
  • I show whakawhanaungatanga in and out of the playground.

I show whakawhanaungatanga when: Playing soccer because they are my friends. 

It was hard when: My friends make angry because ti don't get to play with them.


I really liked: Being a friend because it is fun.

Toby, you show whakawhanaungatanga in and out of the classroom. You use kind words and you notice when your friends are hurt or need some help. It can be tricky when your friends don't want to play the games you want to play. Remember you can play with lots of different kids, not just your friends from our class.

What I Want To Be When I Grow Up

I am going down the pole because it is fun.
When I grow up I want to be in the army.
